FLAMMULINA VELUTIPES "VELVET FOOT"
A long, thin white mushroom used in East Asian cuisine. These mushrooms are
cultivars of Flammulina velutipes, also known by the name, golden needle
mushroom or lily mushroom.
Structural Adaptations:
The mushroom has a dark black fuzzy base, as it is called“velvet foot”, which shows it is a wild plant. Behavioural Adaptations: When the mushroom fruits from the ground, it grows long and thin to preserve energy before reaching the surface and sunlight. Physiological Adaptations: It is known as the winter mushroom because it is mostly seen in summer, as it prefers the warmer weather. |
